Brief narrative

Source: IDMC Occupied Palestinian Territory: Hundreds homeless following incursion in Gaza The UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has reported that the Israeli military operation in Gaza between 28 February and 2 March was one of the most violent since Gaza was granted limited autonomy in 1994. 107 people were killed and 250 injured, and 21 homes were completely destroyed, leaving 147 people homeless. 88 homes were severely or partially damaged, affecting an additional 616 people. The UN described the humanitarian situation in Gaza as “dire” on 22 April for displaced and non-displaced communities alike. No fuel had entered Gaza since 9 April following attack by Palestinian militants. UNWRA was prioritising food distribution and solid waste removal and sewage projects, though an estimated 500,000 lacked solid waste management.

On 23 April, Israel allowed fuel to be delivered to keep Gaza’s main power plant going, but the UN warned it may have to suspend operations to feed over 1.1 million people unless vehicle fuel is let through too. See also: IDMC Occupied Palestinian Territory page
